Major Google Update of Search Rankings is Coming Real Soon!

Hello Redditors! I've been doing SEO a long time. I can sense just things with it. I also watched a video saying there might be a possible Google update coming. I'm saying there IS a major G update one coming very soon! I don't know this for sure, but my spidey senses are calling... Using Aggregate Rating For Service Pages

I've been interested in using aggregate rating for a client's service pages, but I'm also feeling like it might be a waste of time to implement right now. Domain is relatively new, only just started tinkering around with the SEO a month ago and given what I understand about aggregate rating, it seems like there wouldn't be much use adding it right now. I've got him to get clients to rate his business through GMB and these reviews are on the site, but the site doesn't have any real 'authority' (loose word) at the moment so I doubt Google will even provide the review stars to these pages. Should I bother or just wait until we start climbing in the SERPS? My guess is probably wait, but I'm interested to see if anyone has been in a similar position. submitted by /u/GringoTheDingoAU [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2EICQww

Wix sucks for SEO...but what about GMB

So I've been using wix for my local business for the last 2 years. Didn't really know about this SEO stuff until recently and have been trying to learn. I hear that wix is terrible for SEO, but does that also apply to Google My Business ranking? Rankings Tanked After Changing URL Structure: Normal? How Long?

TLDR: I changed url structure on my MediaWiki-based site to the structure used by Wikipedia and other wikis, which seems to be the recommended approach. However, site views seem to be down a good amount overall. Rankings MAY have suffered, but I also have more articles actually being picked up by Google now, so that may be why that's happened in the short term. I've heard this is often a problem in the short term but eventually corrects itself. The site was quite small and basically under the radar, so it makes no difference at this stage of the game. How long did this drop in views last for you, if it happened at all? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hey everyone. I have a MediaWiki based website and have slowly added content for a while now but I've mostly been neglecting it. However, a couple months ago, I noticed some actual incoming traffic. Not much, but clearly people were finding the site, which is great! However, o...

Whats your thoughts on AI generated blog content?

I own a few blog sites that I use for backlinks for my SEO clients. My current method of getting content writers and editors to write, proof read, and post works well but it does take time and obviously you need to pay everyone involved. As a test I made 5 demo sites and used an AI content writer on each of them. I then compared the results to articles my staff had written and they only slightly under performed. The blogs themselves lacked some technical information which my editors could put in but overall they made sense and were informative. Most are ranking well on Google and are giving good domain authority back links. I was almost scarily surprised at how easy it was and how good the results were. I am still sticking to the traditional method for now but when I can click a button and have 20 articles written for me, I can just pay someone to proof read them which cuts the cost and time down by 90%. Is anyone else considering getting AI generators to write the content for b...

Using Same SEO Techniques With Wildly Different Results

Morning all I'm a wedding photographer in the UK and have been hitting SEO pretty hard over the last 5 months, seeing as I've had no work. Most SEO work is spent optimising blog posts for different wedding venues all over the country. I use the same SEO techniques for every one of my blog posts (keywords, alt tags, title tags, inbound/outbound links, etc etc) but have noticed that while some posts are showing on page 1, others aren't even in the top 20 pages. I know that some venues will be more popular and it'll be harder to rank higher for these keywords, but some of the posts that are ranking high, are still popular venues. Does anyone have advice for when your SEO strategy works for some posts, but not for others? I've kinda hit a wall when it comes to trying to get some of these posts to rank better. Can't think of anything else to try. Cheers! submitted by /u/chrisseddon [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO Ne...

Title Tags SEO: When to Include Your Brand and/or Boilerplate

Posted by Cyrus-Shepard If your websites are like most, they include a fair amount of extra "stuff" in the title tags : things like your brand name or repeating boilerplate text that appears across multiple pages. Should you include these elements in your titles automatically? To be fair, most sites do. Alternatively, could it help your SEO to actually include less information in your titles? (Or at least in specific circumstances?) We know from a handful of studies that titles of a certain length tend to perform better. A now-famous study from the engineers at Etsy showed how shorter titles performed better than longer ones . SEOs speculate that this could be because shorter titles can have more focused relevancy (by focusing on core keywords), might earn higher click-through rates, or some other reason we can't imagine. When choosing which part of a title to shorten, brand names and boilerplate text are obvious choices. But how do you determine if this is somethin...

Outbounding Linking

Hi, just a quick one. I’m still quite new to SEO. One of our blog posts receives a high number of clicks each month, ranking no.1 on Google for our target keyword. I have built up a number of links to it and update it regularly. I was recently contacted to do a link exchange from a high DA site. Naturally, they want a dofollow link from this high volume blog post. Will doing this have a harmful affect on the SEO for our post? Will I be passing on the ‘link juice’? Apologies if this is a dumb question, thanks. submitted by /u/Trafford9008 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2EGfTtR

Is it worth starting on a free WordPress site? Advice please!

So I did a lot of keyword research and article mapping as well as on my game on the niche topic I picked but I haven't started yet due to not having enough yet for a yearly subscription and I figured monthly would be kinda stupid because it takes a lot of work and time before you can rank. Effect of Iframes on a key page

I'm currently working with a client in the motorhome hire industry, building them a website from the ground up. One of the pages they really wanted on the site was a routes page where people hiring their motorhomes could look at potential great driving routes. I agreed and we started out building routes manually with an a-b mapped image. They've now said they want interactive maps where people can zoom in for features etc. They've found a 3rd party who's website does this (allows users to upload their favourite routes with pictures etc and others to download the coordinates into their GPS etc. I've added one of the maps to the site using an iframe and it looks great, and does the job, but when I've sat and thought about it, I'm concerned whether it will have a negative impact on overall SEO / render the page neutral on what has the potential to be a great traffic driving page for them. Any thoughts? submitted by /u/daleyboy1234 [link] [comment...

Too late to blog on website?

So I have an education recruitment website for students wanting to apply abroad. It is up an running for two years with moderately low traffic. I want to make the site now an authority on information for new students travelling abroad, with blog posts. Is it too late for Google to rank my site well? I plan on commiting to good content regularly updated, but I think I heard it said that if I don't put most of the blogs up on my site within 3 months, it wouldn't rank well with Google's algorithm. If this is the case, what if I moved domains, so my website got pulled down and moved somewhere else. Would that be seen as a fresh site with Google? Final question. How does Google know that a domain name is a new site. For example I have hello.com for five years and it's a junk site. I don't renew th domain and someone else buys th same. They use the name to make a great site. Would my bad reputation from hello.com transfer to the new owner or not? Thanks guys submi...

Weird Update by google I guess. I'm ranking at the top

Just thought I'd share this with you. A very interesting experience. Background: My site is exactly a month old and we post thrice a week. No backlinks and no special attempt at keyword research or SEO. But articles are highly knowledgeable. Yesterday, I was ranking on the 4th page for my own site name. That too an article was ranking, not the actual site. And today suddenly I'm ranking on the top of the SERP's. I'm just awestruck. I have a friend from reddit whose site was also on 40th position till yesterday but today ranks at 3rd position below his own facebook page at the 1st and 2nd position. One of our articles also got a featured snippet. I'm jumping! What are my option? 301 Redirects from old site to new site

Hi, I have an old website selling some products, however, a new website has been made and I now need to redirect each product on the old website (and the home page) to their respective product on the new website. What is the best way to do this? The domain is hosted with GoDaddy, but they do not allow you to redirect specific pages within a website. I have used Cloudflare in the past, but I would need to pay a monthly fee to add more redirect rules. Another concern is that once the redirects are done, the old website will go offline and so will the SSL certificate. Once the SSL certificate expires, I have had previous issues where the browser displays an "unsafe connection" page when it tries to redirect from the old (non-https) page to the new https page. If anyone here could help me out in any way, or point me to someone who could help me (a company or person), then I would be very grateful. submitted by /u/Toucan987 [link] [comments] from Search Engine O...

These tips can be anything from SEO or project management tools you'd advise using, how to balance workload, other key areas to focus on bringing in qualified leads (that isn't just PPC or SEO), what other skills you've learnt that compliments being an SEO, what tactics are more time-wasting than valuable, what are some rules you learnt hard and fast etc. Would love to hear from you guys. submitted by /u/GringoTheDingoAU [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/31FErMs

User intent + word count in top 10 posts

Hey guys, I'm doing a review post and I was just curious what you all think about this subject. I was taking a look over at my competition, and they are writing paragraph after paragraph of useless information for a DESK and they have 6k words in a low competition longtail. I am almost done with mine and have done a better job (or at least IMO) in around 3000 words. Is my only hope ever to match the guy? The fact this guy wrote a research paper while recommending desks to people makes me think they're a bit out of touch, not to mention the formatting is awful. submitted by /u/Justachillday [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/31Jzl1L

Should I start working on SEO ater 7 Years?

It's more than 7 years old website, started as an hobby and continued till date. Never spent on SEO. I did some social bookmarkings, profile / forum backlinks, some basic optimizations on site, etc but never really had an seo expert take a look or work on it. It a blog hosted on blogger and it doesnt earn much. Should I start working on SEO now after 7 years? any idea on how much does it cost? I was warned about fiverr packages online. submitted by /u/sujithrocks [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3ba2q9i

Making sense of SEMRush data? Resources?

I figure this might be easier than me posting every single question I'd ever have about SEMRush, but...I'm just having so much confusion making sense of some of this data. Is there any good resource I can use when I have some random questions making sense of some of this data? For instance, I tried doing a domain overview of our site, and it's listing that we've had no organic traffic for quite some time. I know this can't be true, because we look at Search Console and Analytics every day. But I can't just bug Reddit every time I have a question. I also see so many errors regarding broken pages on the site, but both http and https versions of the site work fine. And in addition to that, I see such a HUUUGE discrepancy of keyword volume from both versions of the site as well. Every day with our trial is a new issue that I'm worried is preventing our site from getting the kind of eyes it needs. Anyway, does anyone have any advice as to how to make sense of...

When using web 2.0 sites is it best to link all of them together and have the main one link to your own site or is having them all pointing to your main site okay?

Which is better? Sorry the editor lost the format. Example 1 my site (Web 2.0) article article article article article article article (all articles link to my site) Example 2 my site main article (all articles link to this) article-article-article-article-article-article-article (link all of these together) Also if you do link all of these articles together then how many of the other articles do you link to? Like one and the main or more? What do you think? Thoughts... I've been doing the first one, but been doing some more research and it seems like the second one is better. I realized I have 50 articles on Medium and wonder if I would be best served by doing the second way, however I also wonder if I will lose something by doing it this way. I get very litttle traffic from Medium actually and the same with Youtube despite having 2 million channel views. IDK what's best just asking for input. How would Google know to lower my ranking without a single link click?

I have several pages that were initially in position 40-50, but checking a few days later they dropped below 100. Some say content quality is a big factor, but my question is: how would Google know the quality of my content if not a single visitor has come from search? i.e. they won't have metrics like dwell time or other engagement metrics Any pointers would be appreciated. submitted by /u/jytoronto [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/34NTfdw

Any SEO freelancers able to offer advice to a newbie?

I was wondering how any freelancers got their SEO/PPC gigs? So, long story short I am looking to build up some freelance SEO work alongside my full-time SEO/PPC job.. long term goal is to expand it to a small team and get enough projects to set-up full time. However, I do not know how to lead gen at all... Maybe I don't have the sales gift or I'm looking for clients in the wrong places but Upwork hasn't been successful (and it's very pay to play). I get amazing results for clients in work, and they don't have a complaint with the process - it's great. It has given me confidence to go freelance... But any briefs sent on Upwork don't seem to get taken. What are your secrets to gain clients ? Do you trade as an 'agency' or as yourself? submitted by /u/notyourname584 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3jzQBN1

Should I optimize keywords locally or generically?

This is something I've heard mixed things about. I work in a niche field in the wedding industry. From what I've seen, the terms people probably use to find me are very local and location based. Because of this, these keywords are considered "low volume." Would I be better off optimizing keywords to be LESS local? Our main keywords optimize towards "the name of our city + what we do." Would we be better off just optimizing for "what we do" and hope that this will have a positive impact on local people based on their location? submitted by /u/PogueSquadron [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2QzQtAm

Micro Audit for cold prospect emails

If you were doing a micro SEO audit for a prospect's website for a cold email what would you include? A lot of the prospects hI'm approaching are small artisan brands but they have glitzy websites, I want to show that isn't the whole package and we can help them further. I used to do something similar when I ran an Amazon agency for cold email outreach where we analysed their Amazon listings and suggested improvements, it got a good response rate submitted by /u/daleyboy1234 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3b6DNu9

How to make best use of all the locations for a local business?

Hi everyone, I am stuck in a situation and need your help. I manage a local business based in New Jersey. Our site has done pretty much well since I joined here and we have a lot of organic progress. Now the problem is we are ranking for some keywords like ______ service in New Jersey Best ______ service in New Jersey and similar related keywords. But the issue is we donot rank for keywords like ____ service in Newark/Hoboken etc. These are basically cities in New Jersey. Most people search for best service in [city name] and not for best service in [state name] What's the right approach I should take here ? We have a single office in Newark basically so I cannot build location specific pages because there is not much info to add on them and I donot want the site to look fishy. Some of our competitors are using canonical with different domains and same content targeting particular cities of state ? Has anyone had been in a similar scenario before ? Any tips or guidance...
