Finally got to #1 for our priority key word!

Long time lurker, first time poster and something I hope worth sharing.

I run a smallish service company within a pretty competitive niche in the UK. We would definitely be classed as one of the smaller players but have always kept our hat in the ring with all things SEO in order to maintain a page 1 presence for our main key words whilst never threatening top spot.

This year with lockdown and all we made a conscious effort to improve this and target top spot. I don't think we ever realistically thought we'd get there but that was part of point of it being a long term goal.

We already had some pretty good backlinks but felt the content on the site needed work so that's been our main focus. Although arguably one of the easier elements of SEO, sometimes I questioned whether the content improvements were having a significant impact on how 'the man' at google ranked our site. Well after a few months of continuous improvement (with plenty ideas from this sub) we seem to be no.1 this morning! Whilst I fully expecting us to fluctuate among the top 5 over time this feels super rewarding for now!

Moral of the story is KEEP GRINDING. As an SEO noob I've found this sub is great for advice, tips and tricks and generally staying up to date with all things SEO. It's been a long term grind for me that sometimes felt tiring and unrewarding but as long as you stay focussed and methodical in your approach you'll get there in the end.

Local seo vs. natiowide seo?

I've done SEO for local businesses but I recently got my first client that sells an item nation wide. Any suggestions for doing nationwide SEO? I am used to making geopages for local towns. I was going to do the same with some input from the client about what cities or towns he would like to show up in? submitted by /u/Letmeinterviewyou [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News http://bit.ly/2JHy0k0

GMB territory inching with service company

Seeking advice on extending our service area, while our main GMB profile states SD County, we only rank in our neighborhood but we have the team to service much more jobs. The boss wants us to get addresses in these hot territories within the county and use call rail numbers to validate the GMB profile. Question: Does this still work? Will it catch up with us? OR is there a better way to rank in a territory for a service.
