My company is undergoing a leadership change and brand refresh, and I have been tasked with organizing the website redesign.
The company is a relatively small consulting company (20ish employees, 7.5ish Mill revenue) that offers training and certifications to a niche market. We work with large company's and some individuals to train their employees on safety and compliance with the government regulations.
In 2017-2018, the company sank a ton of money into a new custom site built in Laravel (PHP extension and JS) that tracks the customer training, and has many custom features specific to our industry. We have a secondary website to offer online training on. Now both are extremely outdated and clunky, and we have fallen off the first page of google, even though we are one of 3 companies that offers this type of service. It has significantly hurt revenue, and needs updated asap.
We have contracted with a marketing company, who has redesigned our brand with the new leadership. Now we are ready to update the website, but I am unsure the best path forward. The marketing company is suggesting we make a WordPress landing page for Homepage, About, ect... but then link it to a redesigned secondary Laravel site because we still cannot find a WP plugin that allows how we need the cart to function or manage all our course listings. We would then have a third site which we offer online training on, and track customer certificates.
We are also are working with a Dev company as our in-house tech team is not equipped for this large a project. They are suggesting we keep the Laravel site as the structure and logic is good, it just needs updated to the newest versions. They just want to update our current pages and think WordPress is not necessary and will require too many extra hours to link the sites together to make it worth it.
Both companies are basically advising us to use their services, as the marketing company would give us the WP site, and if we went with the Dev companies idea, we would be locked in with them for maintenance and future changes (Laravel is niche).
TLDR: We HAVE to improve SEO to remain viable. #1 priority. Would creating a lightweight WordPress landing page linked to secondary Laravel site achieve this, even though it will be more complex and require more upfront cost, or can we achieve the same level of success by updating our Laravel blades (pages) to newest versions and best practices?
