Do I even need SEO?

I am starting a small on-site computer support business (for both individuals and local small businesses) in a very rural area of western Arkansas. I live on the county line between a county with about 20,000 residents and an other with about 9,000.

I have started down the SEO path with advice from my son who is very knowledgeable and successful with SEO in regards to his own web sites. He has had numerous page one sites over the years and currently has two (he has sold the other sites due to other obligations and people named his price).

Google crawled my site two days ago and of course it is too early to tell if my site will rank or not. To be honest there are only one or two legitimate competitors. One has nothing but a Facebook page and consistently not only ranks 1st on Google, but his Yelp profile, Google Business Profile, etc all rank 1st page as well. He does have an actual shop (that looks like my junk drawer). Another is a college student with a quick and dirty two page website and another has a nice looking website with a lot of nice sounding words about IT consulting, etc., but his business address in town is an empty office.

The actual shop does not do on-site work. People have to bring their systems to his shop. He is fairly knowledgeable and well respected by the community, though he is self taught with 5+ years actual business experience. He told me a few months ago that he will be starting college this semester to get an Associates degree.

I on the other hand intend to provide not only general on-site & phone computer support, but also bring my 45 years of IT experience, degree in Computer Science and certification (CISSP) in Cyber Security.

I don't feel like I am in direct competition with any of them and honestly for actual hardware break/fix I would probably recommend the local shop even though I'm more than capable. I just have had my fill of tearing computers apart and my eye sight can make it difficult to keep track of small parts, etc. especially on laptops.

I am getting organic social traffic from a single Facebook post with a link to one of my blog posts (on the upcoming Windows 10 end of support). I was watching the numbers while I was having coffee this morning and the traffic nearly tripled from yesterday's initial burst of traffic.

I will be doing some website design and mention it on my website along with a few samples of my work, but I think that I'll spin up another website for that aspect of my business. Of course competition in that arena is saturated. I'll be concentrating on personal and small business sites as well as possibly a few pop-up event type sites for weddings, county fairs, etc.

So, Do I even need SEO?

HTTP-HTTPS redirects: domain level or each URL?

Googling for answers seems to give conflicting answers here. We have a domain that has been HTTP but some individual URLs have been HTTPS (like form pages). We are about to deploy HTTPS redirect on the server to get everything going to https://www.domain.com . Do we have to go to the effort of a big 301 redirect list of all page-level URLs without Google dropping our earned page rank? Thanks all! submitted by /u/runtmc2 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/31dJ82b

One website, two properties (domains)

I wasn't sure how to frame that title so let me explain; Due to error on my part, I have ended up with, a www.xyz.com , version of my website, and one that's just xyz.com. Now I'm tracking my traffic differently on GSC and GA. I'm not sure how to feel about this. Is there anyone with a similar situation? Should I just go on like usual or are there things I need to start doing differently? Kindly advise. submitted by /u/Blessed_Dude_101010 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/87Z2MRA
