I’m an elopement photographer in the Pacific Northwest.
When I first started out, I created a ton of “how to elope” guides on random places like Italy, Bali, Norway, etc. However, I have absolutely no desire or plan to photograph elopements outside of the Pacific Northwest.
These guides brought in some traffic to my site, with some of them even ranking on page 1.
I was told to delete this content in order for Google to see me more as an authority in the Pacific Northwest.
I only had 1 blog post that had a backlink so I redirected it. Otherwise, I deleted the guides with a 410.
It’s been a few days and now my rankings have plummeted. Part of me wants to stick it out, as I think in the long run it may help Google see me as more of an authority and rank my PNW posts better. Part of me wants to reinstate these guides. Did I shoot myself in the foot by doing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
