Updating Outdated Google My Business Listings

Howdy smart internet people, I have a quick question about GMB listings. I am an Allstate Insurance Agent that is looking to optimize my google business listing. I have been doing some competitor analysis of how other local insurance agencies run their GMB. While doing so I noticed a few Allstate Agents owners who have went under or sold off their book of business but their GMB is still active. When I click visit website it just redirects to a large Allsate directory for all fifty states instead of the state and agent the user would be actively trying to reach. Would it be unethical to suggest to google to replace their website with my agency website and phone number? All in all the user is trying to reach a local allstate agent and our marketing dept isn't doing a good job of clearing out the old business listings? Is this something businesses tend to do? Or is what I am considering doing wrong? Thanks! Happy New Year!! submitted by /u/isaiahleh17 [link] ...

Pros and Cons of Rebranding to a New Domain

Hey fellow SEOs, I could use some input on a side project I've been working on. A few years back, I purchased a throw-away domain for a project I was working on for my day job. I picked the domain named based upon the fact that it was generic enough that if I wanted to use it to test out some front end web dev assets (I work in tech) or do some blogging, it'd work for it. Two years later, I certainly have done some blogging. I've published approximately three articles a week for the last two years, contracted with some freelance writers to publish their content, and even launched an essay contest with a cash prize for my readers. As someone who works in frontend web dev and content marketing, my website's technical SEO is pretty solid and my content follows a cluster-based approach that has paid off well in terms of growing my organic traffic by about 940% in 2019. At this point though, I'm concerned that the domain name not being specific to the niche in which...

Hi newbie here, I am looking to start having some experience, where should I look.

I worked as a graphics designer, learned web development but never did it professionally past a couple of projects for practising, wrote content as well for a company I once worked at(wasn't good at it). I wanted to get another skill under my belt, thought of trying out SEO. So now I am teaching myself SEO. It's interesting however I am clueless as to where can I practice it. I have thought about about making a site regarding e-commerce and optimize it. I am sure no one would want to give a newbie their space as a playground to practise. Please suggest where shall I go from here. Where can I practise? I can't take up internship at the moment due to my circumstances. Thanks in advance :) submitted by /u/MinaZee [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2Q94CFj

Bought the .com version of .net domain already ranking, should I redirect?

I thought I would get some opinions about this because I'm a little undecided. Recently I was able to acquire the .com version of my .net domain through an expired domain auction. My .net domain is ranking very well for a lot of hard to rank keywords, I also have established some pretty good backlinks for it. I know that doing a 301 redirect could make me lose some of my rankings as the backlinks wouldn't carry the same weight, also the new domain could end up sandboxed because it had expired recently. What would you do? Go ahead and do a 301 redirect to the new domain. Put same content on the .com and do a canonical to the .net version. (I may be wrong but I think that canonical link element only works on the same domain). Sit on the .com and do nothing with it. Create an entirely new site that would compete with the .net version for the same keywords. Please post your opinions. submitted by /u/peternunan21 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimizatio...

Page speed

On pagespeed insights I score 40, then I scan again and score closer to 60. Why does this fluctuate and what can I do to improve it? Should I remove my Tidio chat feature? Does Tidio hurt seo? On GTmetrix I score 90%A. I'm already using Speed Booster Pack and w3 total cache. But I'm not even sure what the heck I'm doing! Like, if I click Java script optimization in Speed Booster, then my theme (x pro theme) doesn't work anymore. And in w3 I followed some directions to add expire headers... But on Yslow it says I need to add expire headers. My site is www.lemonclear.com submitted by /u/rvs4 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/356OoAJ

Question about internal linking

Say that I have X posts that I want to rank most on my blog, and I have put all those in a "featured posts" sidebar, which basically appears in every page of my site. In terms of internal linking structure... Does this mean that I am passing maximum link juice to all those posts? Or does linking them within the blog articles also make it count? I always use also in-content links, mainly because it seems natural, but I was wondering if in terms of SEO this would be overkill and since I already got all of them interlinked on my featured sidebar, wouldn't really make a difference. submitted by /u/InAlteredState [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/39s4wAf

PageSpeed Insights

So I changed the content of my website to create a better landing page and I now have a slideshow with content on my homepage. The site was built with Wix over the summer (I know don't say it) and before I knew it was a mistake I sunk $600 into it already. Any who PageSpeed Insights gave me a 21 score on mobile and obviously I fixed what I could and got it to a 28 which is still bad. Out of curiosity I ran the test on top SEO companies in the area and there scores were just as bad. The one that claims #1 was at a zero. Everywhere else my site is in the green and this concerns me with google going mobile first for crawling. I have a client with a bare bones boring website and it is a 76. Background is green and there is a slideshow with a transparent background and white clip art. They want me to optimize it and I really don't even want to touch it now with the exception of keywords and links. What is the deal with PageSpeedInsights? submitted by /u/KingVictor501 [link] ...

WP Media Being Indexed

Hey guys! I need some help. My WordPress media folder is being indexed by Google. I use all In one of SEO and have set it to no index Media / attachments and pretty much everything except Post/ Pages. I've also set Redirect Attachments to post parent. I believe this happened when I first started the site and didn't realize I was indexing the media folder. Anyway, I have over 200 pages of content I've uploaded to the Media Folder and it's been weeks but it's still there. Any thoughts? Also, on a different question, should my blog posts and pages be set to default no follow when I'm just starting out? Super proud moment!

So I picked my sites name around a large company. I figured they’d always be first on google and I could be snuggled nice in second place and snag some traffic by association. How identical can your text content be inbetween subpages on a website?

I'm currently trying to rank for a service in many different smaller areas where I currently operate, which is why I'm creating subpages that is specific to each of these areas and also tied with the service i'm offering. The 2 competitors that is doing the same are all basically just copypasting the subpages with the exception of swapping out the H1s and switching out the specified areas in their paragraphs. They also have very limited paragraph content with only around 150-200 words per page whereas I'm aiming for around 500. So how unique should I be making all my different subpages? Can I straight up copypaste it like the competitors, should I be writing a new 500 page text for each subpage or something inbetween? What's your experience? submitted by /u/paintitbronze [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2SDA1Br

How to track keyword positions without getting overwhelmed with too many keywords?

I'm doing SEO for a SaaS. We're focusing mainly on a couple of product pages and 20-30 blog posts that perform best. I use Semrush to track the positions of the keywords each page is trying to rank for. The problem is, each page of those pages is usually ranking for multiple keywords – 1-3 main keywords, but I'm also tracking long-tail keywords, synonyms and other related keywords that are getting decent traffic that I discover from Google Search Console. I'm also tracking some highly competitive keywords that we're currently not ranking for yet, but that are important to monitor competitors. As a result, each page can be ranking for even 20 keywords on Semrush and my position tracking report can be confusing and overwhelming. Did anyone here have a similar problem and found a good solution? submitted by /u/bartmasta [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/35aWXdX

How do I approach a company, that sells a single software product which solely occupies an extremely niche market but has virtually zero internet presence outside of its own site, for affiliate marketing purposes.

Basically there's is a software product I use that has a small, but fiercely active community. I know it inside out, and over the years have found extremely creative and non-documented uses for it. I have very sporadically written and posted about them over the years, and everytime I do the feedback as been fantastic. The company's userbase is aging out, and there are maybe 15 videos (non-company produced videos) about the product on Youtube (which are painfully archaic). There are ZERO dedicated blogs outside the company's own forums--which are populated day and night by dozens of loyal, but dwindling, users. When I search for the product's name in various forums people will be like "What, I used it in 2005...are they still around"!? I ran some searches on Ubersuggest, and noted that the main related keywords are searched 30,000 times a month. A Youtube video that was the top result-with only one keyword of separation between them-had 90 million views. As...

Better Site Speed: 4 Outside-the-Box Ideas

All 4 of the listings for a niche business in a town are at fake addresses, but Google won't do anything about it.

I'm trying to expand my father-in-laws business to the next town over. All 4 of his competition in that area is listed as a store-front business, but none of them have actual real locations that qualify as a store-front business according to Google's TOS. 2 of the businesses are listed at hotels. 1 is listed in the middle of town, randomly. 1 is listed at his house. My goal is to get them correctly listed as service area businesses, so that I can compete with them on equal terms as a service area business as well. I've been trying for months to report the listings with my level 7 Local Guide Account, but either the suggested changes are immediately ignored, or they eventually fail. I requested Google contact me, they instructed me to fill out the business redressal form, which I never got a response from. It's been months now and I don't know what to do.
