Changing GMB location but want to avoid rankings dropping off?

A client of mine ranks really well for a very generic term. They want to change their address on GMB, but I'm worried they'll drop out of the local map results Is there any way to ensure this won't happen? Should I create a new listing? I know that's not best practice, but it'll destroy his business if he falls off for this term. submitted by /u/pebbyp [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/36Qinzj

Can you influence sitelinks?

Our main competitors have drop down sitelinks, but our site has a carousel. Is there any way we can influence this? I told my boss there isn't a way, but he is insistent that we should be able to code it somehow submitted by /u/pebbyp [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2XkmhgT

Creating local area pages for a business that offers a wide range of services -- advice needed

Hi Reddit, I am currently helping a family member improve their rankings and I am currently helping them with implementing a new website, with a highly rated and impressive web design company that also do SEO. The business offers multiple treatment services: physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropody, pilates, massage and more, and the company building the website has said that we will rank higher for each local search – such as “London physio”, “Manchester osteopathy”, etc (but obviously more localised), by creating one-size-fits-all location pages for each locality, that will rank for all treatments types + the location: so a “London” page would in theory rank for “London physio”, “London osteopathy”, “London chiropody”, et al. My concern with this is that: - These services are too different for this page to feasibly rank high (and the aim is absolutely to be #1 for everything) for all “treatment types” + “location” keyword. If the company only offered massage and physio then I could u...

Webpage slow despite strong metrics

Hi, I've noticed that when a non cached version of my website is loaded, it takes about 3-4 seconds to load. I have strong scores in speedtests like gtmetrix (A in Pagespeed and Yslow) and Google Page Speed Insights (90+). I also generally have a low number of requests and small file sizes. I've looked at other sites that have comparable metrics to mine, and they usually load in around a second. Why is my site taking so much longer to load? What other factors are their besides the ones I mentioned? Concerned with losing rankings with website dev changes

Hey guys, I'm going to post this in more relevant subreddits, but this is still an SEO question so I figured I'd post it here too. Whatever this Google update was, did extreme wonders for me. My impressions, clicks and CTR have all gone up since the update dramatically, and it's improved a lot of the positions for my blog posts which are now starting to show up on page one, and I expect some quality traffic to come through. Currently, however, I'm not happy with the look of my website. I'm a web development novice, and I was concerned about the possibility of losing current rankings I have if I was to make any drastic changes. I've built my website with WordPress, using a basic theme, and then using Elementor Pro to build the specific pages themselves. I plan on staying with WordPress, but shifting across to another theme and not using Elementor whatsoever. I previously had to change the URL slugs for my blog posts, and as such I had to include a 301 redi...

If you could only pick one SEO tool? Which one and Why?

I left SEO a long time ago but back in the day, the best tools used to be Ahrefs > SEMRush > Majestic. I'm thinking of starting a new affiliate site and i'm looking to get one SEO tool to get started with as I really don't think I need the 3 at the moment. If you could only pick one SEO tool, what would it be and why? I still love the ahrefs keyword finder but SEMRush is looking very complete these days, not tested it out much though. Paid an overseas freelancer $1500 and about $1200 to webmasters for backlinks. How can I do this myself?

Hi All, Based on the advice of my web designer, I hired this overseas freelancer from UpWork (a person my web designer specifically recommended) for backlinks to improve the ranking of my small IT services business. This was an "outreach project" where the freelancer: Identified websites relevant to my industry Obtained their monthly traffic Reached out to the webmasters to ask how much they charged for a backlink Counter-offered their fee based on what I was willing to spend - most links were anywhere from $25 to $100 Had a running spreadsheet with all the data on there including the backlinks and status of various sites (paid, no reply, etc.) My job was to: Have an article professionally written to place on my site with keywords and Yoast optimized Pay the webmasters' fees I had a lot of trust in my web designer's recommendation but I'm now a little skeptical of the work performed by this "outreach consultant" for the following reasons:...

How to analyze backlinks in Excel?

Hello everyone, I had recently used the Ahrefs trial to download competitor backlinks. Since I am a bit of a noob to link building, I was a bit overwhelmed by the tens of thousands of backlinks in the CSV files. Does pagespeed or GTMetrix scores matter ? Lousy scores but fast website ?

Funny thing is google page speed and GTMetrix gives me terrible scores yet none of my friends and I experience ANY poor page experiences or slow loads. In fact, trying to solve those issues that we are "recommended to fix" siply gave my website problems and SLOWED IT DOWN compared to DOING NOTHING at all. The actual user experience and scores don't add up. I have asked all of my friends to test it out from their home WiFi, 4G telecom providers and public WiFi like starbucks and my website is still functioning fast and fine. This involved different computers, different phones, different browsers and different internet service provider. Links were clicked from social media, forums, google and even directly to the site itself. THEY ALL LOADED INCREDIBLY FAST compared to what these "speed test" websites tell us. Adding any plugins or trying to fix the issues to improve the scores and "fix" the problems always made my website slow done in reality. s...

Anyone tried Onnit Alpha Brain to focus on SEO work?

At first glance this will seem off topic, but it's not. I am the GM of an affiliate agency and the owner of a small SEO agency. Both agencies have grown to a point where my work load is just more than I can handle, but not enough to hire, since it's not stable yet. Im feeling a bit burned out and looking for something to help with focus. Ive heard really good things about Alpha Brain, but wondering if anyone in the industry has tried it and what their experience was. Were you able to get in the "zone" more, as they say? Any side effects, like jitters or inability to sit still (that would make computer work unbearable). Lastly, is it worth the cost or do you/I just stick to coffee? submitted by /u/alteredconcepts [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2XhsslT

Realized I bought a pre-owned domain name, feeling a bit unsure

So, before I bought this domain name, I did some searches, seeing if any companies, random websites, or usernames came up for it. I'm starting a blog and wanted a fairly clean slate. Well, all I found was a Twitter user with the same name that hadn't posted since around 2014. Also, I wanted a .com, and nobody owned any of the other TLDs with that name. So, I thought good enough. Long story short, a few days later I realized that the domain had been owned before. I forgot to check the Internet Archive. Someone had a blog from about 2013-2016 with pretty similar content as to what I am planning on posting. Not sure if I should pick a new name or not. I can pull out without too much trouble, as I'm still in the very beginnings. Something tells me I might want to stay clear of this name. Should I re-choose? Or maybe I'm overthinking this? Thanks. submitted by /u/VanDownByTheRiverr [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://...

Sweet spot for content word count ? Does it have to be over 1500 words ?

To be honest some of my most quality content is 1000 to 1200 words. Anything over 1500 is simply going crap and becoming an essay. I also found that people usually don't read articles over 1500 words unless we are finding answers for a topic specifically, myself included. Is it possible to rank and do well with < 1500 words ? For every 2000 word article, I have 12 articles less than 1500. But it doesn't mean these articles are weak, I find them to be the exact amount of information required to be quality content enough that gets the message across. Not everything has to be an in-depth tutorial or review which simply doesn't make sense. Half the internet is there for casual browsing anyways. But the real question is, would there be technical SEO setbacks for writing less ? Adding more words to hit SEO will just produce nonsense if it doesn't suit the topic. submitted by /u/marcovon [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News h...

How different is SEO today compared to ~15 years ago?

About 15 years ago, I followed the old Webmaster World "26 steps to 15k per day" to generate affiliate marketing traffic and made some beer money sending people to Amazon and various commission junction sites. I had kids and they take up a bunch of time, something had to give so I gave up affiliate marketing. My kids are teenagers and cloud computing is dirt cheap compared to what hosting cost years ago, so I'm dipping my toes again. I have more programming skills today. I made a deep vertical niche website. I figured out how I can get users of my new site to generate a decent amount of keyword-targeting "thin content" on the site. I plant a few seeds and then I let the users do the rest. I tested it with my teenage kids, they seemed to get how to use the site. I've got a few pages of thick content (1000 words plus) to supplement this thin content and act as "landing pages". I have about 15 more pages of this thick content planned, targeting ke...
