Short SEO Interview for MBA Project

Hello, I am an MBA student at Cal State Fullerton. For our capstone project my MBA team is consulting with a small local business on improving their online presence and helping to develop a digital marketing strategy. I am looking to conduct a short interview (no more than 10 minutes) with experts in the SEO field. If you offer services in this area I will gladly include your business information in our report for our client to consider if they would take the path of hiring experts in this area. If anyone would be kind enough to give me a few minutes of your time I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!! submitted by /u/rawrrr817 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3gSotGL

Are short tail keywords included in long-tail keywords? [YouTube]

Hey there! Having a bit of trouble finding the answer to this. Say for example I title a video a long-tail keyword like "Harry potter book review 2020 ". Would that mean I would have the chance to rank for both "Harry Potter" & "Book review". This one is an example & I'm trying to do something similar with a title. Any help much appreciated! submitted by /u/Late_Language1908 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3nDjN95

Where to buy good starter sites ?

Recently, I've been looking for some good sites to buy in the 50-150usd/mo bracket but can't find any good ones. Either they are hit by an update or the sites have 301s, PBNs or spammy links on them. Checked out every marketplace and but no luck getting one. Can anyone recommend me a good place to search for them ? submitted by /u/shawnmendes0 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2PAXYKy

Landing Page or Other?

How effective is the multiple landing page strategy for a local business? If I register several local domain names like "New York Podiatrist" and "Brooklyn Podiatrist" and create landing pages for the actual business like "Goodman Podiatry" for those domains, assuming there is already an official "Goodman Podiatry" practice website, would those landing pages really help or could they hinder, would Google see them as repetitive spam and possibly black list them? submitted by /u/47952 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3gNnlUN

SEO & eCommerce product varient taxonomy

Hi everyone. Im getting stumped by a what I presume is quite a simple issue. We sell a product that is attached to 3 to 5 different systems. How do I decide which keywords to go after? Hello! How do you go about creating compelling titles and meta descriptions for e-commerce websites with thousands of products? Getting Started

Hi all. I'm trying to move out of my crappy retail job and do something with my life. Something that has always caught my eye is SEO. My question is, where do I start? I'm guessing I need a website to practice on? My problem with that is I don't have one and can't think of anything I could make that would be of any interest. I don't really have any interest big enough/knowledge about anything worth reading about to make a website about to practice on. Any advice on how to learn, get into SEO or if I should make a website about something just to practice on would be great. We just purchased the top ranking business, what do we do now?

TLDR; we're the #2 ranking site for a great and relevant search term. We recently purchased the company ranking #1... Their name is the exact search term and their site is getting the Google sidebar when someone types that term. We don't want to run two businesses and don't want to change our name. What should we do with the new site/name? Let's say my company is called Books books. We sell books and we live on Mars. When someone searches "Mars Books" this is what the SERP shows: Mars Books (the company we just purchased) Books books (us) The SERP also shows a sponsored ad for us (booksbooks) and a big Maps sidebar for marsbooks. We aren't planning on running two companies -the purchase was mainly to prevent other smaller companies from getting the brand, and to acquire all of their books for ourselves. We like our branding better and are not going to change our name or website to theirs. So what do we do now? Is the best bet to just kill off the...

UTM Parameters in Google Analytics 4

Hi all, So I've been having a frustrating issue with Google Analytics. I have UTM parameters which are properly set up, but the data is made available only in the most useless way possible. The source/medium/campaign data are available on the Acquisitions tab - however the term/content are not. I've tried all of the obvious ways, most notably clicking on the blue "+" and attempting to add the data from there. The data I'm looking for is only available on the Events screen, and even then only in the analysis of a particular event within the last 30 minutes . That's the ONLY place I can find it. The good news is that the data is available, but I've no idea how to find it outside of that context so that we can properly analyze the display ad performance on a granular enough level. Thanks in advance for your help! submitted by /u/Impressive-Fondant52 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3u7...

Have Any of You Ranked Health Sites Recently? Is it Even Possible Post YMYL-EAT?

I've wanted to create a health/nutrition site for a long time and after my recent project is completed it's something I'd like to do. However, with Google's EAT/YMYL update in 2018, I've been wondering if it is actually possible rank health-related sites nowadays? Has it eased off? Can you even rank health-related website without being a conglomerate with a panel of PhD editors? I really have not been paying attention to this part of SEO in the past few years. I have noticed Googles overall push towards a more corporate internet (where sites like Business Insider now rank for health queries and Home Living Magazines ranking for esoteric terms), which has me doubley worried when making a health site of all topics. However, I did see a site like NerdFitness ranking for some health terms, and they are definitely not corporate like Healthline, WebMD, etc. To reiterate, can you rank a health site post YMYL-EAT if you're not a company with a panel of doctorate e...

My international domain nightmare

Hi all - I have an Australian .com.au shopify online store that I also own the .co.nz to. Last year in an effort to rank better with NZ customers I used hreflang tags to have both a .co.nz and .com.au presence. I also now have two merchant center feeds, allowing me to show my products with a .co.nz in google ads. However shopify has no way of neatly converting prices for shipping so essentially a nz customer will always know it's an Aus company. I don't want to be cloak and dagger either, I just initially did it for search reasons. I've seen minimal change so far and it's hard to tell what trend is what with a huge rise in online shopping over the pandemic anyway. So my question is would you expect a .co.nz domain to rank so much better in a google nz search engine (.com.au competitors to rank in google nz) that warrants a lot of extra pain and headache? Managing the multiple feeds takes a special app which is buggy and its just all extra headache, and you can argue i...

What are silos in SEO? Does it mean to connect your web pages through contextual links in a systematic manner?

I recently heard about this concept and what I understand is that connecting your web page contextually (anchor links) in a systematic manner ( Main page to the last page) For e.g. Home page linked to service 1, service 2 & Service 3 (contextually - on keywords like service 1) Service 1 linked to service 1a, service 1b & service 1c Service 2 linked to service 2a, service 2b & service 2c All these pages are contextually linked Is this called siloing? Website copied and content scraped - What to do about it?

Page Rankings took a dive after adding alt texts, what do I do now?

Hello guys, I recently messed up a couple of pages on my site which caused the pages to tank and lose their rankings on Google. My site is built of Wordpress and I am using the Yoast basic SEO plugin. What happened was that I went to add alt texts to the images on my site. This caused Google to crawl those alt texts and soon enough, my pages disappeared from Google with the keywords that I focused on. I realized this and immediately went to delete all alt texts from the site. 1 out of 2 of the pages are back. However, the more important page isn't even in the top 10 yet. This page was ranked 2nd before I added the alt texts. What can I do now? As the head of marketing/sales, I've lambasted our teams previous choices, so I now have carte blanche to go out and find that right solution. We need an SEO partner - someone that will allow us to partake in some of the content creation (it's a niche market), a firm that will take the time to understand our market and competitors, someone that is willing to negotiate price if we bring on our second product line, etc. We are not a tiny outfit, but we do have a tight budget today. $3k a month is near the top of our budget, but we receive a capital injection this summer, with a LARGE portion of that earmarked for marketing. Has ANYONE had great s...

paid posts vs guest posts

Some Seo gurus have expressed the importance of seeking guest posts, as opposed to paid posts (like on a site such as adsy where the blog posts their anticipated price but obviously needs to approve it first) ...but aren't most blogs expected to charge post an article anyway? Is there really a difference between searching buzzsumo and manually messaging every potential blog rather than having the convenience of negotiating on one platform? Is there a better solution than adsy? buzzsumo seems prohibitively time consuming. submitted by /u/adlbrk1 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3nrIpkK

SEO Collection Pages VS 'Simple' Collection Pages [SHOPIFY]

Should we have SEO based Collections or SIMPLIFIED Collections? We have a wide range of the same basic product. Which obviously has a lot of 'similar' keywords that include the basic product, that perhaps we'd like to rank our collection pages for. That said, there maybe some overlap, or the categories aren't actually that distinct, for example: "Fast Computers" "Micro Computers" Another issue is we have a separate category that can include both Fast & Micro, and gets lots of searches ie Steel x Computers Aluminum x Computers Obviously these could all be simply under the same 'computer' collection. QUESTIONS How important is simplifying the categories? How many categories is 'too many' or 'too few'? What about a 'materials' category? How important is having different collections pages for SEO? How damaging will having different collections pages leading to the same products be? Thanks. su...

£99 for a single backlink?!

I've got an agency doing some content writing and backlinking for me because I've never done any backlinking myself before. However last night I decided I'm gonna give it a go to learn how to do it. I used ubersuggests to see where my competition in first position was getting their backlinks from. I randomly picked a backlink that was coming from a DA50 domain. I clicked through to it and saw that it was basically an article with a anchor text link back to my competitors website using my main keyword. I found some contact details on the site and emailed the site owner asking how my competitor got this backlink and if there was any scope of me getting the same. To my surprise they emailed me back quickly. This was the reply: "I can do link insertions (with or without a short provided blurb) on existing articles for £99GBP - payable via Paypal" £99 seems a bit steep to me for a single backlink. Is this normal? What are you guys paying? submitted by /u/an...

Does nofollow links from Wikipedia.com count at all?

Is linking your articles to Wiki articles, and making relevant contributiob to these article make any changes? I wonder because some of my blog articles contain more relevant info on topic than existing Wikipedia articles. So should I contribute to Wikipedia articles AND link to the source at my blog or is it self-promotion and will be banned? submitted by /u/MoanyDronny [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3tWxiTz

Micro niche in fitness- do you need qualifications and do you absolutely have to do youtube?

Hi, I would like to start a blog in a microniche of the fitness industry because I have passion for it and I have a decent amount of knowledge on the topic. I am not an expert at all but I am a fan of massaging, massage guns, massage balls, foam rollers so I have been thinking of something like: massage tools for home use for non-athletes (for people who sit all day and get stiff) /massage tools for calisthenics /massage tools for mma. So I would write product reviews on for example foam rollers and massage guns but also content like what causes certain kinds of stiffness, what are trigger points to aim for with massage guns etc. But I am a bit stuck so my questions would be: Do you think this niche is not too broad or should I niche down even more? Do you think that I will be able to progress from this niche or is fitness so competitive that I will be stuck in my small niche because of big players? Would I really need to have qualifications like a massage therapist or personal t...

Google Ads preview vs Bright Local

I was hoping you guys could shed some light on this. I'm doing my own seo for my business, and I am trying to track how I rank locally. I have been using Bright Local Serp checker, isearchfrom and Google Ads preview for the first page (when applicable). Also tracking on Semrush daily. I'm seeing different results... I rank first page for a specific keyword according to Bright Local, but if I check the Google Ads preview tool, I see different results. Which one should I deem reliable? I would say Google is the source so it should be the most relevant? Are all the other tools inaccurate then? submitted by /u/thinksotoo [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3nAuBVv

FAQ doesn't show on google although it is valid in search console.

I have three websites in a have a FAQ part for every page on these sites but despite the fact that they are on the first page google doesn't show them. On one of the pages, google did show it just for a couple of days but that is for 3 months ago. Is it possible to fake GTmetrix or Page Insight scores?

Hi there, So a few weeks ago I hired someone to improve my Page Insight and GTmetrix score. The score on GTmetrix came back all A's and nearly perfect. The Page Insights went from 8 to 80 on desktop. The actual speed when eyeballing myself, didn't really feel much different but I thought...hey the score is better? A few days later after I tipped him for doing an amazing job. The score dropped back to where it was. So it makes me wonder.....did I get duped? submitted by /u/AndyHTu [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/2R4X49m

Do you have to add Cookie Banner to your website with basic Google Analytics

Hello r/SEO I was wondering how Cookie banners work with Google analytics. I heard that you don't have to put a cookie consent banner if you are using the basic version but with the advanced version you do (because it provides more detailed information). Can someone clarify this? Also, what happens to websites that don't put cookie consent banners altogether if they ARE tracking data. client filling meta descriptions with just keywords

Hey, I'm a Shopify expert, and my client has filled all 194 product meta descriptions with just keywords with 320 characters. What are your favorite books on SEO?

I am looking for recommendations of outstanding books on SEO. Nowadays, in the age of easy publishing, there's a lot of crap, garbage books out there -- quickly hammered together, shit pamphlets that are like 108 pages printed in size 26 font. What's more the people that publish this trash find a way to get like 10-20 five-star reviews, fooling you into buying their books. I say that to say: There seem to be a lot such books on Amazon on SEO. I've gotten pretty good at spotting the spammy ones based on their titles, cover designs and so on, but I want to really go deep on SEO and read a ton of books. So I'm looking for recommendations of books you've personally read that are SOLID. What are some good ones that you'd recommend to someone trying to really take their SEO game to the next level? The ones I have read so far are: How To Get To The Top Of Google SEO For Growth 3 Months To No. 1 All good ones, but I feel like I have gaps in my SEO game that I n...

SEO competitors analytical site?

I have a question regarding SEO sites. I am looking for a paid SEO analytical site we can use. It needs to run a SEO report for the client and for 5 of their competitors. And it would be awesome if it could be embeddable on our site and create a white label pdf report. Does a site/service like this exist? I know there are plenty that will analyse 1 site but I am looking for a service that can analyse a total of 6 sites at the same time (main plus 5 competitors) and spit out a white label pdf report. Does a link from a sponsored article have any SEO value?

I am considering paying for a sponsored post that would appear on nowtoronto dot com in their brand voice section. For example go to nowtoronto dot com, scroll to the bottom where it says "brand voices" then click on one of those articles for example "Coors Seltzer launches the easiest and most refreshing ‘volunteer’ program in time for April 22". on the following article page there are links they are do follow links. Do these links have any value? or does google "know" that this is a paid post and just ignore the link value / not pass any juice? OK i just noticed that some of the sponsored articles on this website are actually listed as "nofollow sponsored" where as other sponsored articles don't have this on the links. For example look at the article titled: "Sell your house, support the food bank?" (you might have to search this in google to find it, it's not recent). So my updated question is, if the article has links and...

Upskilling great writers to also be great at SEO - better approach?

Over the past few years, I've worked closely with content teams where the typical scenario was me helping upskill the teams of writers and subject matter experts to better optimize their content for SEO. Generally, the advice I gave was to know "best practices" for topics, keywords, layout, titling, etc., WITHOUT sacrificing the value or impact of their writing. A blog no one wants to read will fail even if it's perfectly optimized for search. The concept of this sounds great, but practically it's far from perfect as a good number of people get overwhelmed and struggle to grasp the concepts or reject the creative interference. On the other side, others go too far and lose their creative edge and look to SEMRush, Mangools, etc. to steer their direction instead of informing and help guide. I've even seen a team where the copyeditor was also well versed in SEO skills and would optimize the copy before publishing without writer input. In understanding that from...

Can you use the same keyword for two pages? (eCommerce SEO-copy)

So, I typically don't use the same keywords. But my client has a huge furniture eCommerce site (700+ products), and they want titles that are more uniform. For some of their products, there are very little relevant keywords (e.g. 8 products, but only 6 relevant keywords). Will there be any penalization if I use the same keyword? (just duplicates, no triples) Or would you recommend choosing a word that isn't searched? I'm hesitant to do that, but would love other opinions. [EDIT] - the two titles i'm looking at are almost identical (just a different color stain) - and they're not looking to combine the products at the moment. submitted by /u/zhuleedothething [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/3xtl2vO

Car Broker Website. Go With Standard Wordpress Or WooCommerce ?

Hello. for a car broker website, which one should we use ? The site is basically a showcase for every car that's being sell. Like a catalog. We don't need any shopping cart or any online shopping function whatsoever. Just a site showing what we sell. Is there benefits using woocommerce ? Linkbuilding: Blog & Custom Outreach Live Link Without Paying. Possible?

I used to work for clients ready to pay over $300 per link live, so out of 6-8 hours of work spent on doing outreach (100 links), he will pay $300 for each link live. Thing, I used to reach out to blog or website owners, that have a related to the sector, all asking for money ($30 - $100 per link) but the client didn't know. However now, with my new client, I can't do this, so I need to find a way to reach out to bloggers who are ready to post a do-follow link on their platform. The problem is that I only reach out to bloggers or sites, who ask for money like $30 to $100 a link and refuuuuuse to do it for free. My client's e-commerce website has a DR of 53, with a powerful blog, and yet they don't really give a shit and just want money. Is there another way to do link building? Here is what I am doing: Customer outreach to the related sector (but all ask for money) Blog outreach to the related sector (but all ask for money) Round Up article Link Exchange Testi...
