Looking for advice on Google ranking

Trigger warning: I am new to website building and SEO. I have done what I believe is my due diligence, have watched videos and read through guides etc to properly set up my site keywords in order to rank properly in Google search. Alas, it is not working so I must be doing something wrong. If you can help, please keep reading…. Site builder: Squarespace Site age: ~30 days Site content: Painting Contractor GBP is configured, contains useful information and pictures, and is live. GSC: all pages of site are indexed and crawled. Problem: If I search “[my city name] painting contractor”, my site doesn’t show up in the results. By the time I click through to page 10 of the results, it still doesn’t show up. I’m getting results for painters in other cities, but not my own. I’m getting results for things unrelated even. I have gone through the suggested SEO checklist on Squarespace and set my site title to “[my city name] painting contractor” and have included some keywords on other pages ...

Does swapping phone number for ppc affect seo?

I am a big believer that a business should have 1 phone number for main website, google maps, and NAP citations. What about changing number for PPC? Would that cause any issues? I know landing pages can be good but for larger purchases people end up going to the main website either way. submitted by /u/Greenleto12 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/qeWwdhz

Is there a specific piece of advice that changed your content writing game? Would love some writing tips!

Writing has never been a strong skill of mine. I never did well in writing classes in school. I don't particularly enjoy it either, but it's obviously necessary for the site I'm building. If I could I would probably try to outsource it, but I don't possess the funding for that at the moment. Just curious if any of you that write your own content struggle with creating engaging unique informative articles for your sites. Was there any epiphany you had from a book, article, tip, or video that gave you an "Aha!" moment, and changed the way you write, ultimately leveling up your content writing game and boosting your rankings? For me, keyword research, article outlines/briefs and analyzing the SERPs to determine search intent and gather ideas for headlines and the idea of silos (I think that would be the term to use), has helped tremendously, but I still feel like I'm missing something. Or, maybe I'm not fully taking advantage of the kw research and SER...

How Google discovers new pages added to the website?

Let me explain this with a simple example of a giant library where all kinds of books are stored, if you are new and get a chance to find a book from that library, it will become a hard task for you. Also Google is a giant storage of webpages also Google uses bots to fetch each and every active web address but this is not done manually, bots automatically fetch your new webpage and ask Google to add it into the directory with the category. submitted by /u/rankoptim [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/JO6R8M4

what's wrong with my seo?

I am doing seo for a website, niche is very tiny and my pages are competing with each other, for same keywords. I used canonical pages but worried about child pages. Which metric is the most important when looking at a possible backlink?

Really curious how do you people pick websites for backlinking? Which metric is most important for you (traffic, DA, spam score, other?) Some websites have higher DA and charge more for backlinks, others have lower DA and more traffic, but charge lower. Really don't know how to get the most valuable backlinks, because I don't know which metric is the most important. submitted by /u/cookiemonster5402 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/tDn1SYN

Have backlinks become generally unimportant?

We're a small B2B SaaS company, in a sea of much larger competitors. Next year is the first year I'll have an actually workable budget for paid ads. Up until now, everything has been focused on content generation, and sharing content on LinkedIn. Backlinks are insanely hard in our (small but high-dollar) niche as related content is either on competitor website blogs, or "news magazine" sites that require a pay to publish model. That being said, most of our important content performs well in search. We're in position 1 for three search terms, with no backlinks, while 2-10 have dozens or more. Our other content in the top ten is surrounded by search returns with the same dozens or more backlinks. One of our "unimportant" semi-fluff blog posts (with no backlinks) is our #1 organic page, doing well in a number of search terms... again, surrounded by returns with dozens or more backlinks. SEO consultants and SEO tools like AHREFS push the important of back...

Spam update BREAKTHROUGH. Google seems to be getting rid of smaller publishers.

Ok, so after racking my brain, switching hosts, examining my theme etc, I started researching my competitors in Semrush. There are probably 10-20 of us who are consistently posting similar content (niche is small scale TV shows) so I know who everyone is. However about 5 of those are monster sites writing about 99% celebrity gossip + 1% of the stuff we write about, and valued at 100k - 1 million + and the rest of us are little guys competing with them (NOT STEALING) for the 1% and outranking them sometimes. I wanted to see if anyone else lost traffic. The monster websites (which are 4-12 years old) are unchanged. But when I looked up one of the little guys (like me, also around 2 years old and with similar traffic) Semrush shows an identical drop in traffic following Oct 19th. IDENTICAL. The graph curve looks exactly the same and the amount of traffic dropped is exactly the same. So it looks like we are being pushed out and the big websites get to stay. submitted by /u/WikiScho...

I'm writing a definitive guide for a topic where i discussed various topics (which are mostly covered on my own blog as separate individual articles). Beginner: How to ConductShopify SEO Audit

I do understsand it's not an exact science, and a lot of it revolves around content, backlinks, and a few other things. From Being Laughed At As A Pizza Delivery Guy To Finally Out Earning My Peers

So roughly 2 years ago I was a broke college student who made a lot less than my peers who decided to not go to school and essentially worked their regular jobs for the years I was gone. Now because of this many of them had received promotions or raises and were making more than any job I could get at the time, and why is this relevant you may ask? Well as the summer was coming to an end I decided in my last few weeks I would get a job as a pizza guy. Obviously not anything I planned to do long-term but my friends clowned me endlessly about it posting memes of me working there, calling me delivery boy, and once when one of them had gotten angry he just threw out "well yeah I make more money than you so now what" it all was extremely frustrating to me. Now when I went back to college obviously I didn't have a job because I would end up quitting my pizza gig as planned, but I decided that I didn't want to work other jobs like that. Not because of my friends but becaus...

Does using paid Stock or Original images impact SEO? If I change file name, add caption, alt text and all that. I'm making a site for a tree service company - I can't get them to take photos - and I don't want to run around the state chasing them to take photos. Unless they pay me more of course.

Structuring a local businesses service landing pages

Hi all. I am quite early on my SEO journey and I am not actually even sure how to properly phrase this question to research it. So, if you could point me to the resources for the answers that would be amazing. Basically, I am trying to help rank a small, local business which offers a lot of different services in one location. The area it is located in is quite densely populated and they could be found under a lot of different search terms. Different local borough names etc. What are the best ways to capture traffic for all the different variations in services offered and areas serviced search terms? It is best to create a different page targeting each service offered and location with all of the possible variations? Or to create one page with a primary location keyword and secondary locations also listed? How do you structure the service area pages with in the website so the do not cannibalize each other? and how would you structure the website breadcrumbs in this case? But is th...

Email marketing is continually developing. Are you keeping up?

Email may have been around since the dawn of the internet, but the space doesn’t stand still. Google Ads turns 22: A look back at the biggest changes and advances in search

Every five years Search Engine Land likes to put together a sort of birthday tribute to the search engine, online advertising, cloud computing, computer software, quantum computing, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and consumer electronics giant that we know as Google. Take a look at their big 2-0 . But given all that’s happened in search the last two years, we think it’s about time to pop the champagne, cut the cake, and settle in for a new, yearly , honoring. Let’s get to it! 2021-2022 Keyword match types Keyword match types seem to be the gift that keeps on giving, or in Google’s case, taking away. This time  Google’s simplified phrase match  worried advertisers with some acknowledging how similarly BMM and phrase match have behaved, and others denouncing the change as a move to strip away more data and controls from advertisers so that Google can extract as much profit from auctions as possible. Farewell, broad-match modified keywords . Google expanded phrase-mat...

Undesirable 'Related search' results

Was hoping to get some advice on a search results problem I'm experiencing. I'm currently trying to work out how to influence the google results in 'related searches'. when searching for my business name google produces undesirable 'related searches' results such as 'cheap', 'used' 'where to buy cheap' which doesn't look good to people searching out my business. for the record, the products I sell are not cheap in price or quality, one of the leading manufacturers produces our product and ultimately our products are the same as the large brands in quality and price so I'd really like to change the results if anyone could advise on how to do that? don't have any keywords on the site that relate to 'cheap' 'used' etc so not to sure why google produces these results. thank you! submitted by /u/scicm [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/kAfqh4x

SEO Help Please!

Hey there, I have a couple questions I have never been able to find clarity on. So if i am targeting a specific keyword to rank for, should i have that keyword on all my website pages? For example i sell mushroom grow kits. It is my main product. I post 2 blog posts a week, and I have been putting "mushroom grow kit" inside each article just once. I place it in there seamlessly. all articles are different and talk about many different topics within mushrooms and mycology. When i started doing this I started to rank a few months after. But Eventually i lost my rank and I didn't change my method. So i am still adding that keyword to each blog post. I have over 30 posts now all unique but they all have that keyword in each one. I have then learned about "keyword cannabilization" and i think i may be doing this.... I also have read that you only need ONE good page using your keyword and no more. I read each page should target its own keyword. So im confused b...
