I have an older website that has been impacted by the HCU (Helpful Content Update). On the contrary, my relatively new website is receiving a positive response. According to Google's documentation, there's a line I'd like to quote:
"Any content—not just unhelpful content—on sites determined to have relatively high amounts of unhelpful content overall is less likely to perform well in Search, assuming there is other content elsewhere from the web that's better to display. For this reason, removing unhelpful content could help the rankings of your other content."
This line holds true for both of my websites. The old website boasts numerous posts, almost 200+, some published two years ago and never updated. In contrast, my new site has around 30 articles, all published within the last few months.
I believe this is why my old website was adversely affected by the update, while my new website is thriving. Now, I'm contemplating removing the outdated content that I've neglected to update since publishing, or I may choose to update some of the content. I believe this step will contribute to regaining my previous position.
