hello everyone! i recently started a new site and actually my first to learn SEO. it's not even a month old yet, i posted some blogs and they get impressions but barely any clicks, like the avg ctr is 0.2% currently. almost 8k impressions and 12 clicks. i know my site is brand new and it takes time, but i feel im not doing proper keyword research. i read that for new sites you should only focus on low competition long tail keywords... i want to ask how you guys do it, or did it when your site was new and you wanted to rank for keywords. how do you do research for keywords, what tools you use .. if it's long tail obviously there won't be much search volume. I just started consulting for an e-com company. When I dug into their SEO, I found that they went from ranking for about 850 kws (ahrefs) to as low as 30 in the span of a few weeks. Everything plummeted around May/June 2025 and only started recovering in April 2026. Their marketing firm says that there was an algorithm update then and they got no notifications of issues or violations in Search Console (not sure I believe them). I've seen algorithm updates that hurt SEO, but not like this. DA also dropped from like upper 20s to 6. The marketing firm also does their web dev and I'm pretty sure used AI to write all the on page content. Did they get absolutely wrecked for AI content? I'm traking the response from AI Overview weekly and i see some fluctuations in the response. Do we know why this happens? How often Google caches the response? I'm going to try to make this short. I've run a blog for six years now, specializing in male mental wellness. A few years ago, I had some success garnering regular visitors through search engines alone, but over the last few years, that number has pretty much dropped to nothing. On our agreements, I never specified reddit... what we can and cannot do/say on reddit. On behalf of customers, trying to get their name out there. Apparently, that is a best practice according to an ecom SEO agency that my client has worked with for a few years. My client was told that this way he won't have to manually redirect 404 pages, and it won't impact UX. I disagree with that, in terms of UX, a person going into a product/collection page to end up seeing "Page not found" and immediately get redirected to the home page isn't the ultimate customer journey. Also, I disagree that this is a best practice, as missing collections with 20-30 internal links and backlinks are better off redirected to other closely relevant collections. The contextual links become useless when the page hits 404, and the 404 page is then redirected to the home page. Hey everyone, I recently launched a small free tools website. It has been live for about 2 weeks. Google has indexed some pages, but indexing feels very slow and inconsistent. Some pages appear with site:practicaltools.co, but many tool pages are still not indexed yet. I ran our website through SEMrush to see if there were any areas for improvement and mostly because I was bored. I had been told our SEO was in good shape, but the audit suggests otherwise, so now i have a shit load of things to fix. Around a quarter of the backlinks were flagged as toxic, and they are 100% from link-selling/backlink networks. I work in marketing, but SEO is usually handled by our web developer. Thanks to u/rustybrick for sharing/creating this story: Google has finally fixed the link report within Google Search Console. It was broken for the past few weeks and all Google did back then was a temporary "fix" to revert the data to a previous state. But now that report is showing new, normal link data. In mid March, the Google Search Console link report broke and many sites saw all their links disappear, whereas others saw a huge drop in links being reported. Google fixed that by just reverting the report to an earlier state. Now, I see the data is showing new links - before it was showing me about 135,000 external links, now I am seeing 165,000. Yesterday I posted here about clients not reading SEO reports. Just wanted to say thanks for all the feedback. A lot of the comments pushed me to actually try something different. I took one of our monthly reports and turned it into a short 90-second video summary covering the main wins, progress, and next steps. Sent it to the client alongside the usual PDF and they genuinely seemed to like it. The problem I keep hitting is that it mixes current advice with stuff from 2021, and it will confidently tell me to do things that contradict what it told me last month. So my plan is to flip it. Hi all, relative newcomer to the SEO space, so forgive me for the noobish question. I've been in my role for about 10 months working with a reputable B2C company on their SEO. In 10 months, traffic has grown by 25% and keywords had also increased dramatically, with a doubling of keywords in the top 3 positions (according to SEMrush). However, from about mid-March I've seen a steady decline in keyword rankings, to the point where we're now ranking for fewer than we were a year ago. We still have more in the top 3 (double the amount) than we did a year ago, but I have seen a softening in impressions and clicks on GSC over the last month or so compared to previous months, too. We're still up YoY, but not as much as we had been around late April/mid-May. My initial research points to this being a consolidation of our organic performance into higher-performing keywords that may be more relevant to user intent, but the drop in clicks has me slightly concerned on that front....

A few months later, we launched a separate "Practice Test" page where users can answer questions directly on the page for free without logging in. This page was specifically optimized for "practice test" keywords, and we intentionally did not mix "mock test" keywords into it. My ecommerce store sells around 25 unique skus. We've set up dozens of collection pages to target specific use cases, so our products are listed multiple times across collection pages. Each collection page has unique content, targeting specific search intent while avoiding overlap and cannibalization.
