Been messing around with a couple of AI visibility tools and got paranoid about whether the scores are even real. Without web search on, ChatGPT and Gemini can answer purely from training data that's up to a year stale, so if a tool is quietly doing that, the number it gives you might have nothing to do with what a buyer sees today.
My own sanity check: I only trust a tracker if it stores the full answer with the date it was fetched, and the sources cited, not just a percentage. A score history is meaningless if you can't open an old answer and see what actually changed month to month.
I have also started using Perplexity as a second check since it always searches the web and shows sources, so it's a decent way to sanity test another tool's output.
Curious how others here validate this stuff. Do you manually spot check prompts against your tools regularly or just trust the vendor's methodology page?
