My highly ranked(SEO-wise) website went down for a few months; can I easily recover my spot back or not worth it?

I'm a pro web dev(and former seo guy) and had a very old ecommerce site aimed at some obscure items and was top for all domain/keywords related to it(not alot of competition either). Did the SEO myself 10+ years ago and the high search engine rankings are the only driver of traffic. Brought in about $200-400 a month profit but shut down after server crashed 5 months ago and backups got wiped(long story). My highly ranked site has obviously been wiped from results based on recent searches. Is it worth rebuilding asap and should I expect to see my search engine rank recover reasonably fast? OR is it pretty much toast and I'm starting from scratch in search engine rankings? I'm in no rush to restart it. submitted by /u/akesh45 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/vkf5ngN

Google-selected canonical not my site.

Question regarding Google search console and Google-selected canonical. I'm forwarding my domain to my youtube page, but Google search console is showing someone else's YouTube channel as the Google-selected canonical. What can I do to fix this? I was thinking point my domain to an actual host. re-index and then switch back to forwarding? submitted by /u/RelaxingWalks [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/IY1z8Nd

Likely a silly question!

I’m fairly new to learning and researching SEO, after around 14 months of my website being open I get fairly decent organic traffic and I try to work on implementing new SEO tactics daily - my question is; I have a few fairly big changes I’d like to do to my website (basically a new layout for the home page) and I’d like to temporarily close my website for 24-36 hours, will the affect my SEO or any other rankings? submitted by /u/TazmynJordan [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/VWFq1Gn

Wolt Seo?

Ive been very very intrested in the Wolt delivery company's SEO. it seems that when i looked for a pizza in my area the top listing wasnt the best one with their positive rank, time it takes to deliver, time it takes to cook, and also the cost. it was the last one in all parameters but was still at the top. the rest of the listings were also mixed up making me think the SEO is description based. is there anyone that can give some insight? much appreciated!! submitted by /u/galshlomai [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/1ZMld7Y

Reporting tools for agencies

What kind of software/tool do you use to create SEO reports for clients? Our agency currently has a Semrush subscription and Ahrefs, but reporting seems to be and issue no matter what. Semrush caps the available project to a limit of 5, and Ahrefs doesn't have such a good reporting tool. Which blackhat technique works? And which has been the most successful one anyone has ever tried

I’ve tried AI spun content with exact match anchors and it had good results for decent traffic sites, DA20+ to 30 (13k monthly). Google search quality rater guidelines update: What has changed

Google has made a variety of significant updates to its Search Quality Rater Guidelines . The most significant overhauls were to Google’s definitions of YMYL (Your Money, Your Life), and the extent to which E-A-T matters as a matter of page quality. Google provided new, clear definitions for what it means for content to be YMYL, mostly framed around the extent to which the content can cause harm to individuals or society. Google also provided a new table establishing clear examples of what it means for content to be YMYL or not. In the newest update to the guidelines, Google also explained that for highly YMYL content – E-A-T is crucial above all other factors. Google also explained that it’s possible to have low-quality content on otherwise trustworthy and authoritative sites. Your Money, Your Life (YMYL) Topics – Section 2.3 Google completely reframed its definition of YMYL (Your Money, Your Life). In the previous version of the Quality Rater Guidelines, YMYL topics were broken ...

Neeva shares search rating guidelines for technical queries

Neeva has revealed how it instructs human evaluators to rate its search results, specifically for technical queries.  Like Google (which, coincidentally, updated their quality rater guidelines today ), Neeva uses human raters to assess the quality of its search results. The guidelines break down into three key areas: query understanding, page quality rating and page match rating.  Query understanding. This is all about figuring out the intent behind the user’s search query. Neeva breaks down the types of queries into the following categories: How to: User is searching for instructions to complete a task. Error/troubleshooting: Something went wrong, user is searching for a solution. Educational/learning: Who/what/where/when/why. Product seeking/comparison: User is searching for a new product/tool or comparing products/tools. Navigational: User is searching for information on a person or entity. Ambiguous: Unclear what the user is searching for. Page quality r...

Google cookies will remain active on Chrome until 2024

Google’s Privacy Sandbox initiative began with the intent to create technology to protect people’s privacy. Part of that initiative was to reduce cross-site and cross-app tracking by eliminating third-party cookies. Today it was announced that the initiative has been delayed and developers are aiming for a Q3 2023 launch. Google developers also predict that it will start phasing out third-party cookies in the second half of 2024. Why the delay. Google says that “consistent feedback” from developers, marketers, and publishers, and more testing are the reasons for the delays. The most consistent feedback we’ve received is the need for more time to evaluate and test the new Privacy Sandbox technologies before deprecating third-party cookies in Chrome. This feedback aligns with our commitment to the CMA to ensure that the Privacy Sandbox provides effective, privacy-preserving technologies and the industry has sufficient time to adopt these new solutions. This deliberate approach to tr...

Is paying for backlinks considered “falsifying links”?

I am currently working through an advanced SEO certification course. There was a short section about falsifying links that left me confused. If an SEO company were to create content that links back to their client’s site and then pay to post that content on some guest site… is this considered falsifying links? Is this a gray/black hat practice? If the search engine catches this, is it subject to a penalty? submitted by /u/nattyspicyice [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/4hL25ME

Google Ads for B2B: How to overcome challenges, platform limitations

B2B marketers tend to be excluded from most articles, case studies and examples. Even when we get mentioned, our marketing efforts are bucketed as “B2B” and not industry-specific.  However, there are many sub-categories of B2B marketing (e.g., SaaS, ecommerce, education, healthcare). After working with hundreds of B2B accounts, I’ve found there are multiple factors that people tend to overlook or don’t even consider using because it is not “B2B” specific.  That’s a costly mistake. This article will cover basic challenges when using Google Ads for B2B marketing, as well as more advanced obstacles. The advanced challenges are not necessarily difficult, but they will require time and some planning to overcome. Basic errors and platform limitations No ad schedule Businesses won’t search for your website on just any day or at any time. Migrating a Clients Domain to a New Host and Website - SEO Impact?

I'm a hobbyist IT guy and recently got into some WordPress site building. I've helped a few friends set up their 'businesses' online - including some SEO optimisation on their websites and backlink some Social media, Google Business, Yelp, etc. But a local charity has approached me. They have an outdated website, they barely update it. It just has basic contact information and "News" from like 2 years ago. But they have a 10 year old domain that's literally a 4 letter acronym - it's a blind persons charity. It ranks to the top with " city name blind". Even the local window blinds company is like 3rd down and they seem to have some effort in their SEO on the website. My question is - If I create a new website for them and host it using a different host provider, but migrate the original domain - the website will lose it's Google ranking? It's a new website with an old domain? Seems like a very naive question as I'm thinking ...

Help with E-commerce Event Tracking in GA4

I'm new to Google Analytics 4 and E-commerce websites, so configuring event tracking on my family's spirits business website has been a bit challenging. Due to alcohol sales laws, purchases are fulfilled by a third party called Barcart which operates its own e-commerce platform instead of WooCommerce or Shopify. In BarCart, I created buttons for each product that allow users to complete purchases on our website without leaving our domain. I also utilized BarCart's Google Analytics integration which made it seem like there would be no additional setup required on my end. However, purchase events are not being tracked in GA4. The BarCart support team provided virtually no help when I asked them to help me troubleshoot this issue. I tried reaching out to some folks on Fiverr who claimed to have experience with custom e-commerce platforms, but they could not help out. I tried implementing the steps from a helpful video I found on YouTube, using a data layer in Google Tag Mana...

Question about keywords

Hi everyone! I'm new in the SEO world but I have found it quite riveting and am trying to learn more every day. Artist trying to figure out ecommerce SEO - any recommendations on shop categories?

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me picking your brains here. I'm an artist and I'm currently setting up my online art shop where I'll mainly, but not only, be selling prints. I'm a little nervous about setting up the categories wrong and regretting it later. My dilemma is that I'm not sure which way to go with SEO and user-friendly naming of the categories. Here's what I'm planning to sell in the beginning: - fine art prints of my photography (limited edition) - fine art prints of my illustrations (open edition) - printed t-shirts So for sure one category should simply be named "t-shirts", I suppose? For the other 2 I'm not sure - should I make them 2 categories or 1 category and use tags? I could name the overall category "fine art prints" then and tag photography/illustration, but I'm not sure which way is smarter. I want to make sure I can display my photography and illustrations on separate pages, because they...

Lost verification of property in GSC

Today one of my websites lost verification in Google Search Console. It’s been working for a month, and I use it everyday. Although the Google Tag manager can connect to the website using Google Tag Assistant (proving that the code exists on the website), and Google Analytics is tracking my activity on the site (proving that this code also exists on the site), neither verification methods work. I have tried different browsers, adding the property again, but nothing works. It should be noted, I am not the owner of the the GTM account or the Google Analytics account. I am registered as admin on both though and have full admin privileges though my own Google account, so it has not been revoked in either case. It has been working for the last month until yesterday. How to set up Performance Max campaigns the right way

My team has been testing Google Ads Performance Max campaigns since it was released in beta. Here’s what you need to know to set up Performance Max campaigns the right way.
