301 redirects vs exact url (Expired domains)

I’ve been thinking of recreating the exact url for my expired domain pages that have the most amount of links. The issue is the url slugs are ugly. Would 301 redirecting it to my new url that’s still relevant just a different url slug be worth it, or would there be lost authority due to it being a redirect and not a direct link? submitted by /u/NarrowGeologist4469 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/P9pUzJe

Is it possible to rank in the Mappack in multiple zip codes?

As the title states, I am wondering if it’s possible for my local service business to ramp in the mappack for multiple zip codes? We service a wide area and only have 1 office. Is it possible for us to come up as a result in the mappack (not organic ranking or sponsored links) for zip codes outside of our office location and along the outskirts of where we service? submitted by /u/heffaheffaheffa [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/RedjC0w

What are some SEO mistakes you’ve made that you wish you had caught earlier? Are these SEO tactics DEAD in 2025?

First off, I'm not an SEO expert by any means. I’m a fractional CMO for B2B SaaS startups, so my focus is on strategy, ops, and overall Pipeline impact. I recently brought on a SaaS SEO agency to support my portfolio clients, and we kicked things off in the first week of February. I know SEO takes time, but I’m starting to feel like they’re running an outdated playbook, especially with how fast AI is changing the game for everything marketing. Here’s what we’re doing so far: Content & Webpage Audit – Reviewed existing pages to identify areas for improvement (e.g., keyword optimization, content gaps, etc.). Keyword Research & Content Planning – Identified relevant keywords and created 200+ blog content ideas across BOFU, MOFU, and TOFU. We’re publishing about 4/month, mostly starting with BOFU. Technical SEO – Fixing site errors, broken links, and other issues. Software Directory Listings – Created profiles on 50+ software directories. Product Landing Pages – B...

Why are my rankings so volatile for low difficulty keywords?

Hi all, I'm restarting my SEO journey with my web design agency website since COVID and I'm trying to understand why my ranked keywords are being so crazy with rankings changing every 2-3 days. I'm talking like keyword difficulty of 0 to 5, super easy keywords. A day goes by and I'm ranked #1 and then drops to like #97 it's crazy. I know there was a major update in March but I'm just trying to understand why is this so sporadic and is it anything on my end that i'm doing wrong? I'm not a expert/pro in SEO but I'd consider myself pretty intermediate. I'm targettiing a few small cities in a state that isn't that populated like the search volume is no more than 10-20 volume per keywords. Title, meta, headings, and even alt text are optimized and my page speed is 100 so I'm just confused what I should be evaluating with something like this going on? Thank you. submitted by /u/rebeccaberkowitz [link] [comments] from Search Eng...

Do people still use online local business directories in 2025??

I started a small local online business directory in Jan 2000 for myself out of necessity since nothing really existed at the time. I used it to help myself keep track of all the things to do in my area with children since I was a first time at-home mom with a newborn. It really took off and for well over a decade, I think…got loads of traffic (in my opinion…it still wasn’t huge compared to commercial sites with money to advertise) and tended to come up on the first page of local related searches. I had some paid listings and ran into people all the time that were familiar with it and used it regularly. I was proud of my project. Then life got busy and my family grew and I didn’t work on it so much…now it’s likely been close to a decade since I had any regular traffic and I just haven’t had time to work much on it. But my kids are grown now and I am interested in working on the project again and now I can enlist family to help. I started another complete overhaul of the Wordpress s...

AI for SEO strategy?

hey y'all! curious to know if any of you have built anything, have any awesome AI prompts, or have seen any existing tools that help with SEO strategy? e.g., I give something my URL, maybe some Semrush or Ahrefs data, and my goal, and it tells me semantically what my top priority should be? OR if I want to start a site from scratch: I give it the URL, it tells me what keywords to go after, what strategies would work best, etc.? Curious what's out there! submitted by /u/milkyral [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/rg4OHin

I want to change my website main keyword, how to do that properly?

I was trying to do SEO for a new website, I have created around ten good articles and started to see some impressions on a particular keyword. After some time, I realized that I might need to narrow down a bit my value proposition and figure out that I need to rank on a different keyword. What's the right way to handle it? What do I do with my old articles? What will happen if I change my web page messaging? submitted by /u/libinpage [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/6eJLUGE

Medical Field SEO - Footer Fine Print Information worth adding for SEO Impact?

Hey everyone, Clients will be redesigning the site and asked if I had any suggestions, so I began researching the competitors and noticed that all of them had information about their products, linking to actual NCBI studies just above the footer of their homepage. Basically, they had footer fine print information. Clients like the idea but want to know if it has any SEO impact. While it made sense that it obviously would be good information, and possibly contribute to a better understanding of the page, I'm looking for concrete proof that this has proven to assist in SEO efforts. So I would love to ask if anyone knows anything about this from personal experience or knows some information out there that I can read about this. GMB suspicion RISK

Do other agencies owners make separate emails for management per client? I've seen a string of people being banned, which causes all associated accounts being banned. What do you guys do? If so, do you do a separate email or just your own stmp with your own domain? It's not a big deal to connect multiple emails to something like brightlocal, but sorta annoying. submitted by /u/zeGenicus [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/BhLgV91

Why are my Google sitelink titles/descriptions different from what I set in Squarespace?

Hey everyone — hoping someone here can help me out. When you search for my business on Google, you see several sitelinks under my main site result (like “Services and pricing here,” “Our story,” etc.). The problem is: The titles and descriptions in the sitelinks don’t match what I’ve entered in my Squarespace SEO settings for those pages. I'm not trying to change which pages show up there, just how they show up. I’ve already gone into Squarespace and updated the SEO title and meta description for each of those pages. On my actual website, the page titles and headings are correct — but in the Google search results, the sitelink labels and snippets are outdated or totally different. I’m using Squarespace 7.1. Is there a way to force Google to update these, or at least better align the sitelink text with what I’ve entered in my SEO settings? Would really appreciate any advice or tips. I’ve already submitted the sitemap through Search Console and requested indexing on the u...

Keywords in Meta Description

Doing some SEO work for a tree care/arborist company. Currently workshopping a meta description, and want to use keywords such as “tree planting” and “tree removal” without making it sound redundant. Do I have to use those keywords separately, or will “tree planting, removals…” be enough to have the algorithm pick up on both key terms? Impressions vs Clicks

Sorry if this doesn't belong here.. So last quarter I redid my companies website and made it more SEO friendly. Looking at our first quarterly report we've seen significant increase in impressions and we're now showing up for searches that are specifically related to the services we offer - which is great. We're also on the front page for some of these keywords. However, our "Total Clicks" and CTR hasn't gone up. Is there an explanation for this? I literally can't fathom Squarespace

I've just started doing some freelance SEO on the side and have been doing audits/strategies. A jeweller client has a Squarespace Commerce site and I saw they had mostly product level rankings. I check the URLs and almost none were collections or subcollections. Dug deeper and after checking Robots Exclusion Checker and Screaming Frog it turns out that the brilliant developers canonicalise the subcollections to the main collections pages. Seriously!? A small business who relies on this is now missing on hundreds of keywords thanks to this boneheaded decision. Helpful Content

OK, I keep seeing people talking about all this EEAT BS spilled by Google for years, but the reality is that the core metric here is interactions. I was saying this a while ago, but they've come out to say now that if they find content relevant but users don't with interactions reflecting that, they'll dump it from the index. So, if your content isn't something you wouldn't be excited to read or share quickly, then it's likely not going to get traction. I wrote a whole thing about this on my website today. It's been two years of this, and all the results rolling in from agencies pushing AI vibe content is atrocious. You simply can't just spin up AI content and hope to perform well. Spindexing tanked in like 2012 and Google was wise to the PBNs pretty fast. Half of SEO is ranking, and the rest is turning those people into satisfied customers. If you haven't figured that out yet it's going to be a long journey. Stop pushing superficial click met...

I build millions of anchor optimized links from junk sites - what happens?

I don’t think anyone knows the true real answer. Plenty say Google ignores them. Plenty say it will lead to a manual action. My thinking is this - clearly fake links built at scale will of course not help SEO whatsoever. However, these will also likely not lead to a penalty, as 1. Google said they ignore them 2. The issue of encouraging “negative SEO” by competitors.. but I DO think that these links aren’t a good look for a site.. I think Google likely sees them and uses them as a piece of the algorithm pie when evaluating a site for EEAT. I think that depending on the specific nature of the links, the existing brand trust / authority, and plenty of other things we’ll never know about, these links can absolutely hurt the organic presence of a website. I also think there’s too much “fear” around these junk links, esp. the ones that are junk but just like random (not built rather come from random weird sites as the natural result of high traffic). Last I think you should only disavow i...

Guys, I need your help

Context: I work in SaaS niche, for the previous 4-5 years with ups and downs, but I had stable growth in long term. Current update: I see a dramatic decrease in traffic, but what is more weird - I don't see any huge fluctuations in SERP. Simply, I've lost many of my top3 positions (-3-5), but these SERPs +- remain stable. I'm trying to figure out the reason and what experiments I can run there to fix the case. Maybe anyone had the same/similar case? Links, content - both are ok, I don't see any reason to analyze it again. There are no technical issues. The only thing I was thinking about - AMP. A bit more than a month before I've turnt them off, made 301 redirects from amp to non-amp, but all was ok. The non-amp pages started to rank, I had good positions. But the number of GOOD pages for mobile with time decreased to 0, and all pages changed their status to "needs improvement". This is the only thing I was thinking about. On the other hand if we ta...

Dropped off of AI overviews, but still ranking well. Help!

We have a site that ranks on page 1 for many competitive search terms but for some reason we are no longer cited in most AI overviews. We used to have lots of citations, and we still get citations on very niche search terms but for the vast majority, it's almost like we have been filtered out. Does anyone have any experience with a site that's dropped out of most AI overviews, even though the site ranks well for the same search terms (1st in some cases, and with snippets). I've read that sites that were hit by helpful content are less likely to show in AI overviews. We did get hit for helpful content back in Sept 2023 but have recovered for the most part. So far, that's the only clue I have to go off. Maybe it's an indicator that we haven't fully recovered from helpful content, or that we've dipped back below the "line" so to speak. As mentioned, we were in almost all AI overviews but disappeared a few months ago. It's a bit puzzling beca...

How do I learn what the Boring Marketer is doing?

The Boring Marketer SEO agency is really hyping up their approach to working with AI agents and AI systems (beyond asking AI to write blog posts). Has anyone seen any courses that teach similar strategies to what the Boring Marketer is always talking about? I've taken their free 7-day email course and put myself on the waitlist for the community, but I'd love to take a more comprehensive (probably expensive) video course that actually teaches these strategies--implementing AI optimization systems for SEO, instead of just speeding up blog post creation. submitted by /u/Gullible-Main-1010 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/48UoiHO

Is there a way to force/help Google pull images from the article itself instead of the first page if crawls?

I asked a similar question in the past and was told that it’s basically how Google operates—it indexes the first image it finds. I’m trying to figure out a way to make Google use the image from the article itself instead of pulling the featured image from my blog page. To clarify, I have a blog where all of my articles use a featured image. Google displays my articles just fine in search results, but there’s no image beside it. If I click on image results, my image is nowhere to be found or, at times, is displayed at the bottom. If I click on the image, I can see that it pulled it from my blog instead of the article itself. This results in my article being displayed in the search results with no image beside it since the image itself is associated with the blog page. Is there a way to avoid this? Is there anything I can do to help it pull from the article so that when the article appears in results, the image is beside it? submitted by /u/chench0 [link] [comments] from S...

Footer link farms

In my country there's one of the biggest publishers with 80M/yearly revenue who has listed all their publications (staggering 53) + multiple links to main categories on these sites. So they have probably around 150 outgoing links in their footer to different news magazines, marketplaces, comparisons etc. Just bunch of unrelated stuff. Since they are the biggest they get away with that. Would I get away with that? I run 10-20 different comparison/blog/review sites (mostly old, 5-10+ years, established sites) - some sites ranking very well for tough keywords already, but just started to think if I should try to leverage the network more boldly and just link all together the same way. Significant increases in impressions, decreases in clicks YOY

We are in an extremely competitive industry that relies heavily on SEO. It is essentially us and 2 other main competitors in the space. One of these competitors is way ahead of us and ranks #1 for all of our industry's highest value terms. They have spent years building their backlink profile and are incredibly difficult to outrank. My efforts over the last year have increased our impressions for our high-value terms significantly. Like 80k+ impressions per month compared to where we were a year ago. However, clicks have not followed, in fact clicks have decreased in some instances. Our average position has also improved an average of 2-3 spots for most of these terms site-wide. My hunch is that this is a result of paid and AI starting to overtake SERPs and I'm working to prove that, but I would love some additional input from other experts as to what might be happening here. submitted by /u/thrice1187 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest ...

Directory website - too many listings?

Hello everyone 2 weeks ago I made a directory for a certain niche. Last week I uploaded a first listing type with 2000 pages/listings, which started ranking almost immediately and gave me 6000 impressions a day for a few days, with 30 visitors a day. I was positively suprised that I got engagement so fast. After a few days I uploaded 7 more listing types, which are around 14000 pages/listings in total. A few days after, my impressions died down to less than 200 a day and 1 or 2 visitors daily. Did I nuke my own website for uploading too many pages at once? What do I do? Shoutout to Ross Hudgens for the concept! I built it with AI using the Cursor IDE and Claude Sonnet 3.5 (and it was kind of a nightmare). It has a cool retro video game theme, which AI whipped up super fast and easy for me. It responds to the Konami Code (IYKYK) in a delightful retro video game way. (try it!) You can check it out at freshnessdistancecalculator dot com I'm happy to answer any questions about the tool and how I built it. submitted by /u/darrenshaw_ [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/fhAiIJd

Tools for site Health / Page Audits / Keyword research

Hey, I'm a software developer and currently working on an open-source project related to GDPR and similar topics. (Free Tools for Web Developers) The goal is to make the tools accessible to a larger audience, which makes SEO relevant now. I've already done my research and made the best of it (I would say). However, I understand that it takes time to generate organic traffic. Since I don't make any profit, paid tools like Ahrefs and Semrush are not my first choice but i use the Free version currently. (love it) Do you know any good alternatives for site audits and keyword research that are either more affordable or free to use? submitted by /u/Leadership_Deep [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/9Or2LgF

Google ignores my Meta description

I’ve been fighting the meta descriptions of my website since November. All my competition have nice meta descriptions, but Google ignores mine and uses the first line on each page as a description which just doesn’t look good. Any idea how I can fix this? The website has been crawled by Google and when I inspect it it knows my description it just chooses not to use it. My description is the perfect amount of symbols so fits fully, clean and up to the point. Google did like my titles thankfully. Here’s the description. “Manual JDS Services | Duct design for permit | Fast turnaround & 24h Delivery Available! | ACCA Approved Software and over 20 years of experience in the field.” Do you see a reason Google might not like this description? Everyone of my competitors uses something like this just written differently each time and I would say that mine sounds the best. How to Do SEO for a Nationwide Site with Thousands of Landing Pages?

Hello! I have a nationwide transportation website in the states with thousands of landing pages in all local cities worth getting traffic from. After talking to a few SEO's I'm confused as to what the best SEO strategy would be to get the best bang for my buck. Do you think I should target the homepage with links or get links to the most important landing pages first? Or is there a better strategy than just getting links, like perhaps I should be posting lots of content relating to transportation in that city? Thank you again for any advice. I appreciate you all! submitted by /u/Confident_Finger_655 [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/PgJcrql

Rank images on Bing

Twelve years ago, a news article that was unflattering was on a major news site. While the news article no longer appears in the search, the image from that article is the first image result and shows on the main page of Bing. How to improve my images rankings so that image is not number one? submitted by /u/JonnyRottensTeeth [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/sYDF9LT

age blocked by robots.txt . The SEO guy I hired says I just need more back links however the indexed pages on Google dropped over 5x just after he started doing work on the site. Is he talking garbage?

I got someone to design me an Ecwid store which all went fine. I started adding items onto it and google was slowly indexing these. I then hired someone to do the SEO. They starting doing their work and over night the number of indexed pages fell from 30 indexed and 28 not indexed to 6 indexed and 53 not indexed. I have now added more product pages so there are over 150 pages on the site however no change to the pages Google has indexed. They are telling me I just need to buy back links from them and wait however when I run URL checks in Google Search Console it is telling me “Page cannot be crawled: Blocked by robots.txt”. I’m using Ecwid. What am I supposed to do / believe? submitted by /u/TerribleFruit [link] [comments] from Search Engine Optimization: The Latest SEO News https://ift.tt/GTFUZVr
